Individual Relationship Counselling

Healing After Relationship Pain, Breakup or Separation

When a relationship ends, changes or keeps hurting, it can shake your sense of who you are. Individual counselling gives you a private, unhurried space to make sense of what happened, look after yourself and find a clearer way forward.

Who this is for

Adults who are hurting because of a relationship: one that has ended, is changing, or keeps following the same painful pattern.

You don’t need your partner or family to be involved. Many people come on their own because the other person isn’t ready, or because they want space to focus on themselves.

Who attends

Just you. If a partner or family member would like to join later, we can talk about whether couples or family sessions would be suitable.

What might bring you here

  • A breakup, separation or divorce, whether or not it was your choice
  • Betrayal or infidelity, and the loss of trust that follows
  • Loneliness, or feeling you’ve lost yourself in a relationship
  • Difficulty setting boundaries, or always putting others first
  • Relationship patterns that keep repeating
  • Uncertainty about whether to stay or leave
  • Cultural, faith or family expectations affecting your relationships
  • Grief for the future you had imagined

How we work together

What counselling may involve

Sessions are confidential and go at your pace.
Depending on what you need, we may:

  • make sense of what happened and how it has affected you
  • work through grief, anger, shame or self-blame
  • notice patterns from past relationships and where they may come from
  • rebuild self-trust and strengthen your boundaries
  • practise ways to steady strong emotions, such as grounding and breathing techniques
  • get clearer about what you want next

I draw on person-centred, trauma-informed and solution-focused approaches, with
CBT-informed and narrative ideas where they fit.

  • Person-centred
  • Trauma-informed
  • Culturally responsive
  • Strengths-based
  • Evidence-informed

Privacy

Confidentiality

What you share stays confidential, apart from a few situations required by law, such as a serious risk to someone’s safety or a concern about a child’s wellbeing. We go through these at the start.

How confidentiality works

Limits

What counselling doesn’t provide

  • Counselling isn’t a crisis service.
  • It isn’t legal advice, mediation or Family Dispute Resolution.
  • It can’t promise a particular outcome, but it can help you understand your options and choose your next step.

Referral

When I may suggest another service

If you’re experiencing family violence or a mental health crisis, or you need legal or other specialist help, I may suggest another service instead of, or alongside, our work, and help you find it.

Questions

Common questions

My partner won’t come to counselling. Can I still come on my own?

Yes. Many people find it helpful to start on their own. It gives you space to understand your own needs and find new ways to approach the relationship.

Starting your own work can also help you communicate more clearly, which sometimes makes the other person more willing later. If and when they’re ready, we can talk about couples or family sessions.

Can I have sessions online?

Yes. Zoom video sessions are available anywhere in Australia, from a private space where you can talk freely. In-person sessions are in Westmead and Blacktown.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. You don’t need a referral or a Mental Health Care Plan. You can contact me directly.
